The California Diversity Council Presents…

The Inaugural California Healthcare Diversity Summit was hosted by City of Hope. The theme for this year was, “Cultural Competence and Excellence in Healthcare in the Age of Personalized Medicine”.  Christine Hardin, LEEP AP, EDAC, and Greg Nelson, IIDA, EDAC, presented at one of the breakout sessions; the topic, “Designing for Patient & Guest Experience”.

San Diego Healthcare Design Conference 2014

J. Paul Getty Museum Visit

The J. Paul Getty Museum is currently exhibiting “Overdrive: L.A. Constructs the Future 1940 – 1990,” an overview of the urban landscape and its diverse architectural innovations. Christine and a group of friends/colleagues attended the exhibit and were fascinated by the growth and transformation of the city which were made possible by its patrons, planners and architects.

Planetree Conference 2012

This year the Planetree Conference was held in sunny Palm Desert, California where attendees learned about the latest in innovative patient- and resident-centered care and had a chance to connect with their peers. At the conference, Christine ran into Phyllis Goetz, Chair of the Planetree Visionary Design Network.

Of the many exhibits at the event, one of them was a Sky Factory Digital Cinema Virtual Window featuring real nature scenes with audiophile sound system. This real-time scenery delivers a soothing presence for the mind and body through imagery, motion and sound and the slim installation fits standard wall depth.

Besides the many breakout sessions available, tours of a few healthcare facilities were provided to showcase the successful implementations of Planetree initiatives. In particular, Christine toured the Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego County which has carried out My Health Record (an open medical record for patients), an Integrative Healing program (including comfort massage, aromatherapy and Reiki), an Arts Healing Program that brings arts to the bedside for patients and a program that integrates volunteers as Health Information Ambassadors.

The grand finale of the 3-day conference was the Spirit of Planetree Awards ceremony and dinner. It was a truly inspiring and educational event!

Dwell on Design 2012

From June 22nd through June 24th, Dwell Magazine presented Dwell on Design at the Los Angeles Convention Center, West Coast’s largest design show. The exhibits encompassed all aspects of the modern lifestyle with over 350 exhibitors at the three-day celebration. Christine and Karin Costello-Ritchie checked out one of the Dwell Outdoor exhibits, the new Airstream International Travel Trailer which showcased an impressive miniature abode, including a bedroom, galley, bathroom and storage area.
